Entries this year were again slightly down - 60 cats in competition as opposed to 67 last year, plus 8 on exhibition as against last year's 10. Not bad really, considering the continuing trend of reducing entries throughout cat shows generally. On the day only 3 cats were unable to attend and with Classes ranging from 1 to 12 entrants the competition was fierce, nowhere more so than in the Casper Challenge "knock out" competition into which every cat was entered free of charge. In view of the Valentine's Day date this year the committee really went to town with decorations and the hall was resplendent in red and white with balloons, hearts and banners, all generously paid for and put up by Joint Show manager, Vicky Pearson. As it was also the Club's 10th show two other committee members gave generous donations - Vice Chairman, Joan Hobson, very kindly sponsored commemorative medals for each exhibitor and judge, and the other Joint Show Manager, Carol Walker, donated special commemorative plaques for the BIS, Casper Challenge, and NNPS winners. The show was, it would appear from the number of comments, phone calls and emails received, a huge success so far as exhibitors and judges were concerned, certainly on the day there was a tremendous buzz about the hall with smiling face upon smiling face as one wandered around the hall. In addition, the overall profit was in the region of £800, so our associated charity, the SRPCC Cat Welfare Trust, has also benefited. The week before the show was, to say the least, not without its problems. These were, however, overcome with the result that the day itself went smoothly with only one apparent hiccup (swiftly sorted!). Best in Show judging was done, as always, across the table on stage with 2 nominations being given fore each of the Groups - Adult, Junior & Kitten. The nominations were:- Adult - Stewart's BOBBIT and Walker's MOLLY; Junior - Jackson's ALEX and Jackson's SIMBA; Kitten - Rawsthorne's SAPPHIRE and Watkins' CAPPUCINO. The winners were:- Best Adult - Stewart's BOBBIT - a tabby 6 year old shorthair male neuter. Best Junior - Jackson's SIMBA - a 9 month old ginger semi longhair male neuter. Best Kitten - Watkins' CAPPUCINO - a 4 month old black tortie semi longhair female neuter. Casper Challenge Winner - Jackson's SIMBA - a 9 month old ginger semi longhair male neuter. NNPS Heat Winner - Stewart's BOBBIT - a tabby 6 year old shorthair male neuter. The judges on the BIS panel - Daphne Butters, Valerie Moore and Christine Stalker, then awarded Overall Best in Show, by a unanimous decision, to SIMBA - a superbly laid back chap. Many congratulations to adoring owner, Cath Jackson, from Ribbleton, Preston. An interesting point was that throughout the BIS judging the three judges, totally independently and without any conferring whatsoever, consistently picked the same cats in the same order, the first time we can remember this ever happening at the show.
