Entries this year were the same as last year in competition - 64, but a few down on exhibition with only 4, although this was due to the fact that, as an experiment, we did not have any registered pedigree cats on exhibition this year. Considering the continuing trend of reducing entries throughout cat shows generally we were very pleased with this. On the day we did lose a few cats with 3 cats unable to attend, another not turning up and 4 being "vetted out". However, with Classes ranging from 1 to 17 (split if above 9!) entrants the competition was fierce, nowhere more so than in the Casper Challenge "knock out" competition into which every cat was entered free of charge. The show was, it would appear from the number of comments, phone calls and emails received, once again a success so far as exhibitors and judges were concerned, certainly on the day there was the usual buzz about the hall with plenty of smiling faces, never more so than amongst the newcomers as they came up on stage to collect trophies won by their cats. The overall profit this year was in the region of £1,000, about £200 up on last year, despite a much lower, and very disappointing, attendance on the day so our associated charity, the SRPCC Cat Welfare Trust, has also benefited. The week before the show was, as is now commonplace, not without its problems. These were, however, overcome (at the expense of a couple of nights sleep!) with the result that the day itself went smoothly with only a few apparent hiccups (as always, swiftly sorted!). Best in Show judging was done, as always, across the table on stage with 2 nominations being given fore each of the Groups - Adult, Junior & Kitten. The nominations were:- Adult - Stewart's BOBBIT (second year running) and Brewer's FUFFA; Junior - Hewson's NALA and McHugo's CHEEKY CHESNEY; Kitten - Jackson's DEMELZA and Gildert's LOLA. The winners were:- Best Adult - Stewart's BOBBIT - a 7 year old tabby shorthair male neuter. Best Junior - Hewson's NALA - an 11 month old black & white shorthair female neuter. Best Kitten - Jackson's DEMELZA - an 8 month old tortie & white semi longhair female. Casper Challenge Winner - Gildert's LOLA - a 5 month old silver shorthair female. NNPS Heat Winner - Walker's MOLLY - a 6 year old tortie tabby & white shorthair female neuter. The judges on the BIS panel - Liz Mills, Irene Roos and Helen Marchant, then awarded Overall Best in Show to DEMELZA - a really gorgeous looking girl. This was by no means a unanimous decision like last year, but was a very close run thing, with each judge choosing a different cat! We had to award points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and there was, in the end, just one point between each! Many congratulations to adoring owner, Cath Jackson, from Ribbleton, Preston, whose Simba won the same accolade last year. The Best Adult, Jo & Ian Stewart's BOBBIT, was also BIS Adult last year, quite an achievement! Pictures from the show and full results can be seen by clicking the links below.
