2006 ANNUAL PET CAT SHOW

Our 12TH show was held on Saturday February 18th 2006 at OUR USUAL VENUE OF Worden SPORTS COLLEGE, Leyland near Preston.

Entries this year were, sadly, the lowest in the Club's history but that did not prevent everyone from having a most enjoyable day and what we lacked in quantity (just 47 cats in competition and 2 on exhibition) we more than made up for in quality, much to the judges' consternation as it made their task so much more difficult.  On the day we did lose a few cats with 3 cats unable to attend but happily not one was "vetted out".  Class ranged from 1 to 12 (split if above 9!) entrants so the competition was fierce, nowhere more so than in the Casper Challenge "knock out" competition into which every cat was entered free of charge. In addition an innovation for the Club this year, Open Classes were split Male and Female with a "Best in Class" being awarded to the better of the two winners.

The show was, it would appear from the number of comments, phone calls and emails received, once again a success so far as exhibitors and judges were concerned, with the new catering from Lancashire County Council being extremely well received, especially by the judges who thoroughly enjoyed their hotpot or lasagne and apple pie and cream!  The overall profit this year was in the region of £850, about £150 down on last year, the attendance on the day was up and the "choose your prize" raffle was exceptional, so our associated charity, the SRPCC Cat Welfare Trust,  has also benefited.

Best in Show judging was done, as always,  across the table on stage with 1 or 2 nominations being given for each of the Groups - Adult, Junior & Kitten. The nominations were:-  Adult - Brewer's FUFFA (second year running) and Walker's (no relation, honest!) MOLLY;  Junior - C. Jackson's WILLIAM and Robert's MORGAN; Kitten - K. Jackson's FREDDIE. The winners were:-

Best Adult -  Walker's MOLLY - a  7 year old tortie tabby & white shorthair female neuter.

Best Junior - Jackson's WILLIAM  - an 11 month old tabby & white semi-longhair male neuter.

Best Kitten - Jackson's FREDDIE  - a 7 month old cream tabby  shorthair male neuter.

Casper Challenge Winner - Leigh's VELVET LEIGH - a 10 year old black shorthair female.

Royal Canin Stakes heat winner - Jackson's WILLIAM  - an 11 month old tabby & white semi-longhair male neuter

The judges on the BIS panel - Anne Ashworth,  Nigel Rose and Sharon Bohanna then awarded Overall Best in Show to WILLIAM - a stunning lad indeed. Many congratulations to  owner, Cath Jackson, from Ribbleton, Preston, whomade it three in a row as her  Demelza won last year and Simba the year before.
