Entries this year were similar to last year and once again everyone seemed to have an enjoyable day and although there were just 45 cats in competition and 4 on exhibition the judges' task was as difficult as ever. On the day we only "lost" 3 cats and once again not one was "vetted out". Class ranged from 1 to 15 (split if above 9!) entrants so the competition was fierce, nowhere more so than in the Casper Challenge "knock out" competition into which every cat was entered free of charge. Once again Club split the Open Classes Male and Female with a "Best in Class" being awarded to the better of the two winners. The show was, it would appear, another successful day for the Club, with exhibitors and judges sending letters and emails of congratulations after the show and once more the new catering from Lancashire County Council was highly commended by the judges. The overall profit this year was sadly well down, but still a reasonable amount of around £600 was made, about £250 down on last year. Best in Show judging was done, as always, across the table on stage with 2 nominations being given for each of the Groups - Adult, Junior & Kitten. The nominations were:- Adult - Kidd's ALFRED (first time at our show) and K Jackson's FREDDIE, who was BIS Kitten last year; Junior - Gildert's TONY and Porter's MILLY; Kitten - Westerman & Beach's MILO, an automatic choice as, this year, there was only one Kitten Open Class entered and so the winner automatically became BIS Kitten. The winners were:- Best Adult - Kidd's ALFRED - a 9 year old tabby & white shorthair male neuter. Best Junior - Porter's MILLY - an 18 month old dilute tortie tabby & white shorthair female neuter. Best Kitten - Westerman & Beach's MILO - an 8 month old tabby shorthair male. Casper Challenge Winner - Kidd's DAISY - a 1 year old black & white shorthair female neuter. Royal Canin Stakes heat winner - Kidd's ALFRED - a 9 year old tabby & white shorthair male neuter. The judges on the BIS panel - Pat Howard, Ben Benson and Jennifer Pinches then awarded Overall Best in Show to ALFRED- a seasoned "pro" who was competing here for the first time. Many congratulations to owner, Pat Kidd from Spennymoor, County Durham, the long trip was obviously worthwhile Pictures from the show and full results can be seen by clicking the links below.
